MAPPING FROM / TO
Inspired by the Kanawah Project, "Mapping From / To" was a project that integrated the simple idealogy of being aware of one's surroundings. Students were told to record the path they took from home to the studio (our classroom) on one particular day. They were asked to write and draw as they made the route. In congruent with recording their paths, students were asked to also notice and record the environment around them while paying particular attention to any environmental hazards or disruptions. In other words, all that litter and trash we have become desensitized to and end up ignoring.
Through typographic language, students interpreted their journey through individual visual maps that reveal a common vernacular as a whole. The language of direction, location, place and environment are individual, but the modular underlying grid, color scheme and use of Univers are given as a common thread.
